You can access Dealer Gateway's online help from any
web page by clicking the Help icon in the top right corner
below the Sign out link. When
you click the Help icon, the system
opens Dealer Gateway's online help in a new browser window or on a new
browser tab depending upon your browser and browser settings.
If you access the online help from Dealer Gateway's Home page, the system will open the online help to the default Dealer Gateway Overview help topic. If you access the online help from any other Dealer Gateway web page, the system will open the online help to the help topic appropriate for the web page from which you accessed the online help. For example, if you click the Help icon from the Dealer Profile web page, the system will open the online help to the Dealer Profiles help topic.
When you click the [Contents] button on the help tool bar, the system displays the table of contents in the left navigation pane. The table of contents provides a global context for understanding how each of the help topics relate to the software as a whole.
When you open the online help by clicking the Help icon on any Dealer Gateway web page, the system shows the location of the help topic in the table of contents displayed in the left navigation pane that is currently being displayed in the right pane.
When you locate a help topic using the Index or Search and then click the [Contents] button, the system shows in the table of contents the location of the help topic you selected.
To scroll up or down through the topics
in the table of contents, click the
Browse icons located immediately
below the [Contents] button
and above the table of contents in the top left corner of the navigation
pane.
When you click the [Index] button on the help tool bar, the system displays in the left navigation pane an alphabetical list of topics from which to select. The Index is designed to locate information by subject.
If you click an index term that is associated with only one help topic, the system displays the associated help topic. If you click an index term associated with multiple help topics, the system displays a list of the associated topics. When you select a topic from the list, the system displays in the right pane the help topic you selected.
In some instances where multiple topics are associated with a single index term, the Index contains both primary and secondary index terms (with the secondary index terms indented under the primary index term) to assist with categorizing the topics in that content area. For example, the primary key word Setup contains multiple secondary key words beginning with Background Item Matching to assist with locating information about a specific setup area. When secondary index terms are present, no items are linked to the primary index term. You must select a secondary index term to locate a topic within a primary index term.
When you click the [Search] button, the system displays a field for entering the information for which to search, a [Go] button to initiate the search, a check box option to highlight the information for which you are searching in the topics that are located, and an entry field for specifying the number of matching results to display at one time (10 by default). The Search is designed to locate help topics with the most relevant information based on the information for which you are searching.
The Search has the following characteristics:
· A help topic's text must contain at least the root word of one significant search term in order to be considered a match.
· If a search term appears only in a topic's image, the system will not consider the topic a match.
· The system automatically excludes insignificant words such as a, an, and the; if you search for the, the system will find no matches.
· Search terms are not case sensitive.
· You can use quotation marks to enclose a multiple-word search string to find only topics that include those words listed in consecutive order (e.g., "sync with system").
· You
can use boolean operators (and, or, not) to refine a search as follows:
equipment or sync |
equipment and/or sync |
equipment and sync |
both equipment and sync |
equipment and sync and not template |
both equipment and sync but not template |
When you click the [Go] button,
the system displays matching topics ranked by relevance in descending
order. A topic that includes all the search terms, contains
the search terms listed in consecutive order, and/or contains multiple
instances of the search terms will receive a higher ranking than a
topic which matches only one of the search terms. You can change
the sort to list the topics by title or by rank, in ascending or descending
order, by clicking the Title
and Rank column headers above
the Search results.
If the number of matches found exceeds the number of matches to display at one time, links are available below the list of matches being displayed to navigate to the next or to a previous set of matches.
When you click the [Print] button on the help tool bar, the system prints only the content displayed in the topic pane; it does not print tool bar buttons and/or content from any other pane (which may occur if you click the browser's standard print feature).
To conserve on-screen space, secondary
content within a help topic may be hidden until you click a Plus icon to
display the content. Similarly, after displaying hidden content,
you can click a
Minus
icon to re-hide the content.
If you want to display all the hidden content in a help topic, click the [Expand All] button on the help tool bar.
If you want to re-hide all the secondary content in a help topic, click the [Collapse All] button on the help tool bar.
To scroll up or down through the topics
in the table of contents, which is displayed when the [Contents]
button is selected in the tool bar, click the
Browse icons located immediately
below the [Contents] button
and above the table of contents.
To close the navigation pane below the
[Contents], [Index],
and [Search] buttons on the
tool bar and to the left of the topic pane, click the Hide
Navigation Component icon. Clicking this icon provides
additional space for viewing the help content displayed in the topic
pane.
To re-display the navigation pane, click the [Contents], [Index], or [Search] button on the tool bar.
The system displays a series of navigation links, commonly referred to as "breadcrumbs", at the top right of each topic displayed in the topic pane. These breadcrumbs show the location of the topic within the table of contents. If you click one of the navigation links, the system will display in the topic pane the first topic listed in the corresponding section of the table of contents.
